The Impact of Renewable Energy on Our Globe & Our Future
Global Impacts of Renewable Energy:
In 2015, the Sustainable Development Goals were adopted by the Generable Assembly to aspire and inspire the Globe for a sustainable future. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals have 169 targets, and outline a path for poverty alleviation, equality, and environmental justice. Among these goals is goal number 7 – Clean and Affordable Energy and goal number 13 – Climate Action, and consequently, one important step for a just, ecological transition for our Globe includes renewable energy.
A transition towards renewable energy yields endless possibilities economically, socially, and environmentally. Environmentally, renewables serve as a climate solution for the greenhouse effect and climate change. Economically, the clean and green transition would offer local employment, greater health for individuals and communities, the opportunity for countless jobs to be created, a progression towards conscious consumption, and the quality of life for communities would raise. Furthermore, renewable energy would also assist with social bonds creation, impact investment, as well as community/income development.
What Does the Future of Renewable Energy Hold?
The population of the Globe continues to increase, and consequently, so does the energy demand – for residential areas, communities, and organizations everywhere. To ensure global resilience, sustainable energy levels, and to protect our Earth, we must adapt to the rising need for energy. According to the International Energy Agency, to date, renewable energy sources make approximately 26% of the world’s electricity and is expected to reach 30% by 2024. Germany, Sweden, and Costa Rica are countries which have been on the forefront of the renewable energy transition for the Globe. As countries and populations continue to demand renewable energy sources, the increase in demand will decrease the price ultimately making this decision an ethical choice for our planet, and an economical choice for countless generations to come.
